For 2025-26, there are 20 affected Ayurveda colleges with 17 being private Ayurveda colleges and 3 being government Ayurveda colleges. The withdrawal and/or denial of granting probably was for any or all of the following reasons, non-compliance with the regulatory system, insufficient infrastructure, lack of faculty, etc. or a failure to meet the minimum requirements of the NCISM.

Students and guardians should read this list carefully before proceeding even with the admission process. If a student goes to a college and has not been granted the permission, there is a possibility of not recognizing the degree, inability to take the licensing test, disruption of the chosen education and career pathways, etc.

Reasons for Denial of Permission for Ayurveda College

Some Ayurveda colleges were denied or revoked permissions under Sections 28 and 29 of the NCISM Act, 2020 for not meeting the regulatory standards. The primary reasons for refusal/revocation of approval include.

  • Not meeting infrastructure, staff or hospital requirements.
  • Not fulfilling conditions for conditional approval.
  • Noncompliance and denial/ revocation of renewal of approval for previous academic years.
  • Requests for increase in intake capacity not meeting NCISM norms.
  • Discrepancies in sanctioned seats or reservation compliance.
  • Failure to adhere to inspection reports or NCISM directives.

These steps will only ensure that institutions are compliant and following the necessary regulations to provide excellent Ayurveda education.

Instructions to Students and Parents

The Ministry of AYUSH and the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) have issued a series of instructions so that students and parents can make an informed decision with regards to admission to Ayurveda colleges.  One should read through everything carefully to avoid situations such as an admission to an unrecognized college, a degree which is not valid, registration to take an exam for a degree, or a degree that cannot facilitate a potential occupation.

1. Check the status of College’s permission.

  • Always check the official NCISM or Ministry of AYUSH website for a list of approved colleges prior to applying.
  • Do not apply to any college listed as ‘denied or withdrawn’ permission for the year you are applying, as the degree you obtain from that college will not be valid.
  • Check for updates continuously, as the college permission information can change or a new notice could be sent out for the academic session.

2. Eligibility verification

  • Ensure that the student meets the eligibility criteria for Ayurveda study, including NEET eligibility, qualifications for eligibility marks in the qualifying examination, and domicile eligibility (if applicable).
  • Confirm category eligibility for reserved seats: SC/ST/OBC/EWS, or Persons with Disabilities (PwD).

3. Admission Process

  • Admissions must be sought only through official counselling portals or authorized admission authorities.
  • Offline or direct applications to colleges without valid permission may result in cancellation of admission or non-recognition of the degree.

4. Original Document Verification

  • Students should keep all original documents, which consist of their NEET score card, admit card, all mark sheets, all certificates, and all category/reservation documents.
  • Document presentation must be valid and up-to-date from responsible authorities. Documentation might be rejected due to incompleteness or ineligibility.

5. Financial Verification

  • Parents should always confirm the fee and deposit for the college directly and also confirm that the college is legitimately recognized before making any payment.
  • Do not pay money to any unauthorized or unapproved institution.

6. Obtain Verification

  • If there are any clarifications needed, parents and students may also address the clarification to the official website of the Ministry of AYUSH or NCISM, or contact the admission counselor.
  • Be sure to remember to respond to the registration, choice filling, document, and reporting deadlines so that you do not lose any allotted admission seat.
